Frequently asked questions

Plain answers about what Kendri is, who runs it, what it costs, and how it works.

What is Kendri?

Kendri is an AI-powered chat assistant for schools, universities, and students' unions. It answers website visitors' questions using only your institution's own published content, and routes questions it can't answer — or ones that look like an urgent welfare concern — to your team. It is your institution's intelligent first point of contact.

Who operates Kendri?

Kendri is a product and trading name of Techytal Ltd, a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales. Company number 17421712. Registered office: 17, St Luke's Crescent, Leeds, LS11 8LA. General enquiries: hello@kendri.co.uk; data-protection enquiries: privacy@kendri.co.uk.

What plans and pricing do you offer?

There are three plans, and every plan starts with a free 7-day trial (no credit card required).

  • Starter — £49 per month. 500 questions per month included, one connected website, automatic re-crawling, the admin dashboard, and email support.
  • Growth — £149 per month. 2,000 questions per month included, up to 5 connected websites, everything in Starter, higher question volume, and priority email support.
  • Scale — contact us. Unlimited websites and custom domains, custom volume and terms, custom implementation, dedicated support, and SSO (Microsoft 365 / Google). Email hello@kendri.co.uk.

Prices shown exclude any tax that may apply. Pricing is usage-based — each plan has a monthly included-question allowance.

How does the free trial work?

The trial lasts 7 days and needs no credit card. During the trial you can connect one website, the widget is limited to one page you designate, and there is a small usage cap so a trial can't run up unexpected cost. You can upgrade to a paid plan at any time from the admin dashboard.

How does Kendri actually work?

You add your website and verify that you own it. Kendri crawls your public pages and indexes the real content — no manual copy-pasting. When a visitor asks a question, the widget searches that indexed content for the passages actually relevant to the question, and an AI writes an answer using only what it found. If nothing relevant turns up, it says so honestly and flags the question for your team instead of guessing. This approach is called retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Your site is re-crawled automatically, so answers stay in sync with what you publish.

What happens when Kendri can't answer a question?

It tells the visitor it couldn't find a confident answer, and it records the question for your team in the admin dashboard. The visitor can optionally leave an email address so a member of staff can follow up. Kendri never invents an answer when your content doesn't support one.

How does Kendri handle urgent welfare or safety messages?

A message that reads as an urgent personal welfare, safety, or safeguarding concern is never answered from page content. It is routed straight to designated staff at your institution for human follow-up. This feature is automated and best-efforts only: it may miss a genuine concern or flag an ordinary message, and it is not a substitute for your own safeguarding or emergency procedures. Kendri is not an emergency, medical, counselling, or safeguarding service.

Which AI providers does Kendri use?

OpenAI is used to generate the vector embeddings that power retrieval, and Anthropic is used to generate answers and run the automated safety and query processing. The full, current list of sub-processors is on the Sub-Processor List page.

How is my data handled?

Where Kendri processes personal data submitted by a website visitor through the widget (such as the text of a question, or an email address given for follow-up), the institution is generally the data controller and Kendri is the data processor. Where Kendri handles our own customers' administrator and billing data, Kendri is the controller. Full detail, including retention periods and international transfers, is in the Privacy Notice.

What cookies does the kendri.co.uk website use?

By default, only strictly necessary technologies: a sign-in session and one-time-passcode state for administrators, anti-bot and security checks from Cloudflare, and a record of your own cookie choice (kendri_cookie_consent, kept for 12 months). Optional analytics cookies are only ever set if you accept them via the cookie banner — and we do not currently set any. You can review or change your choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. See section 12 of the Privacy Notice.

How do I add Kendri to my own website?

After you sign up and verify your domain, you get a single <script> tag with one API key. Drop it into your site's HTML and the widget is live — no separate hosting or integration work. You manage connected sites, usage, unanswered questions, and billing from the admin dashboard.

Is there a demo, or is this real?

It's the same retrieval-and-answer technology already answering real questions in production for a real institution, packaged as a self-serve product. In fact, this website runs the Ask Kendri widget on itself — the answers you get here are generated from these very pages.
